Welcome to Martinique!

Konten Wè zot

Located 7,000 km from Paris in the Lesser Antilles archipelago, Martinique is bordered to the east by the Atlantic Ocean and to the west by the Caribbean Sea. Its landscape is characterized by its diversity, with active volcanoes, hills, and plains. A tropical region with a hot and humid climate, temperatures fluctuate between 25 and 30°C year-round. The heat, due to the sunshine (and not the famous ti' punch...), is tempered by the oceanic influence of the trade winds.

Our walks are programmed from 3 unmissable spots: Trois-Ilets, Sainte-Anne and Basse-Pointe.

LOW POINT

Colonized as early as 1658, the first settlers cultivated tobacco and cocoa, which later gave way to sugarcane production. Today, sugarcane has been replaced by bananas, which occupy more than half of the agricultural land. Its fertile soil is truly ideal for agriculture.

Basse-Pointe is the birthplace of Aimé Césaire, renowned for its majestic dwellings: Gradis, the Pécoul plantation, now classified as a historical monument.

Basse-Pointe is home to the largest center of Indian migration, the "coolies," as they are called. The town has two temples where ritual ceremonies called "Bondié coolie" are still performed.

Basse-Pointe stands proudly facing the sea and claims a wild and authentic identity, unique to the north of the island. Nestled on one of the slopes of Mount Pelée on one side and shared on the other with the Atlantic Ocean.

From a tourism perspective, Basse Pointe offers a rich and welcoming environment for exploring the north of the island: sugarcane fields and banana plantations give way to tropical rainforest, a veritable wild jungle. The D10 departmental road is colloquially known as the "Route des Habitations" (Plantation Road) in memory of the magnificent plantations that once lined its route.
